The 2025 Warren County 6–8 grade boys basketball regular season opened with the same fire and flair the preseason promised. Week 1 delivered last-second drama, rivalry intensity and breakout performances all over the county. Centertown and Dibrell played another instant classic, Eastside won a heated grinder at home and Morrison–Boyd added another wild chapter to their growing rivalry.

Every team showed something — a go-to scorer, a late-game closer, a defensive stopper, or in some cases, a young player emerging sooner than expected. If this is the start, the rest of the season is going to be a blast.

The Main Street Journal proudly presents the Week 1 Players of the Week, brought to you by Kevin Rhoton at SouthPoint Risk, Cole Taylor Lawn Care, M&M Farms, McCorkle Landscaping and Crisp Springs Fireworks.

BOYD – BRYCE HENSON

The eighth-grade big man delivered the best game of his young career Tuesday, scoring 12 points in a 50-31 non-conference win over Covenant. Henson’s interior presence, confidence and finishing ability gave the Broncos a huge spark. As he continues to grow into a key contributor, Boyd’s ceiling keeps rising.

CENTERTOWN – LAWSON DENNING

Denning controlled the paint in Centertown’s revenge win over Dibrell, pouring in a game-high 16 points and sealing the game late with clutch baskets inside. After the preseason limited his impact, Denning turned in a dominant performance that re-established the Warriors’ inside presence.

DIBRELL – JAMES KNEIP

Kneip led the Wildcats with 15 points in Monday’s big win over Eastside, attacking the defense with confidence and providing steady scoring throughout. His ability to get to his spots helped Dibrell build momentum early in the week before entering its showdown with Centertown.

EASTSIDE – MIKHAIL WILCHER

Wilcher paced the Bulldogs with seven points and helped steady Eastside through a tense fourth quarter in the 25–23 victory over Irving College. In a game defined by defense, whistles and clutch free throws, Wilcher’s scoring punch was vital to keeping the Bulldogs unbeaten.

IRVING COLLEGE – CASH LUSK

He isn’t filling up the scoring column yet, but Cash Lusk is the heartbeat of the Tigers’ offense. The point guard pushes tempo, disrupts defenses and delivers no-look passes that catch both teammates and fans off-guard — in the best way. His energy and floor leadership keep Irving College competitive every night.

MORRISON – COOPER MURPHY

Murphy’s steady brilliance has powered Morrison’s 2-0 start. He scored 16 points in Monday’s win over Irving College, then followed with a clutch performance alongside Weston Murphy in Thursday’s thriller over Boyd. Whether it’s scoring, rebounding or controlling pace, Murphy is doing everything to keep the Eagles flying high.

Upcoming games: Monday, Dec. 8 games include Irving College going to Centertown, Dibrell at Boyd and Morrison at Eastside. Next week's schedule also includes these Thursday, Dec. 11 matchups: Eastside at Boyd (11 a.m.), Centertown at Morrison and Dibrell at Irving College.
