Two weeks into the new 3–5 grade boys basketball league, the excitement around Warren County is undeniable. Packed gyms have already seen dramatic finishes, runaway wins and the type of hustle plays that make elementary basketball so entertaining. A few teams have separated themselves early, showing off deep rosters, aggressive defense and a flair for the fast break. Others are finding their rhythm, pushing through tough competition while still giving fans plenty of reasons to cheer. The mix of tradition-rich programs and fresh faces has created an unpredictable start, and every night has brought a new storyline to follow.
What’s clear is that the league is filled with young talent. From sharp-shooting guards to strong post players, every team has kids who are proving they can be difference-makers. The competition is fierce, the rivalries are heating up and the energy in the stands is setting the tone for the season ahead.
The Main Street Journal is proud to shine a spotlight on these future stars. Each Saturday during the 3–5 grade season, we’ll recognize a Player of the Week from each team for their standout performance on the hardwood. It’s our way of celebrating the kids who are making plays, leading their teams and showing what makes this league so special.
This recognition is made possible thanks to our sponsors: Dos Marias Street Food, Crisp Springs Market, Prince HVAC, Grissom Underground, Sara Beth Collins with Tree City Realty, Family Care Clinic and Hot Corner Cards.
We are still looking for a sponsor for the Dibrell Lady Wildcats. If you'd like to join in as an elementary basketball sponsor, please contact Jeff Simmons at jeff.simmons@mainstreetmedia.llc.
Here are the players of the week from Sept. 15-25:
Michael Simmons – Bobby Ray Stars
Simmons has been the heartbeat of the unbeaten Stars. He poured in 16 points against Boyd in the league’s first marquee showdown and added steady scoring in every outing. His ability to create offense and lock in defensively has fueled Bobby Ray’s perfect 4-0 start.

Ryder Reed – Boyd Broncos
Reed has been the most explosive scorer in the league, capped by a 34-point eruption against West. Even when defenses key on him, he finds ways to get to the rim. His production has Boyd sitting near the top of District 1.

Greyson Eubanks – Centertown Warriors
Eubanks has been a steady engine for the Warriors, scoring in double figures in the opener and leading with nine against Dibrell. His consistency and versatility have made Centertown a 3-1 team and a contender in District 2.

Jeb Culwell – Dibrell Wildcats
Culwell has been the Wildcats’ steady scorer, putting up 13 points against Morrison and reaching double figures in other outings. His inside scoring and ability to create shots have been crucial in keeping Dibrell competitive in a tough District 2.

Oaklen Hutchison – Eastside Bulldogs
Hutchison has been the Bulldogs’ most consistent scorer, tallying nine in the opener and showing he’s capable of leading the way offensively. As Eastside searches for its first win, Hutchison will continue to engineer the Bulldog offense and push the pace.

Branch Conley - Hickory Creek Hawks
Conley has emerged not only as the Hawks’ top weapon (scoring nine against Eastside in the team's latest win), but also as one of the best bucket getters in the elementary league. Conley has Hickory Creek climbing to 2-1 and hoping to keep pace in what's been an impressive start for several D-1 teams.

Behr Britton - Irving College Tigers
It has been a year of rebuilding for Irving College, which is rolling out one of the youngest rosters in the 3-5 grade elementary league. When it comes to scoring for the Tigers, they've turned to a Behr – Behr Britton, their fearless young guard.

Trey Hawkins - Morrison Eagles
Hawkins delivered one of the season’s best single-game performances, dropping 15 points in a narrow 30-28 loss to Dibrell. His scoring and leadership set the tone when Morrison finally broke through with a win over Irving College Thursday.

Camden Chadwell - West Wizards
Chadwell was electric in West’s win over Eastside, scoring 18 points while running the offense with confidence. His scoring punch keeps the Wizards competitive, and his breakout has given West a needed spark in District 1. Chadwell is also emerging as one of the top defensive guards in the elementary league.
