It's still early in the season, but more and more people are starting to set their gaze to the final week of the season. That's because Boyd and Hickory Creek just keep winning - and winning big.

The Lady Broncos rolled through Bobby Ray, Morrison and Eastside to improve to 7-0 while the Lady Hawks muscled by West on their way to another double-digit blowout, keeping the league’s two unbeaten teams on a collision course at the end of October.

There was more than dominance this week, though. Eastside finally got in the win column behind Mia Rodriguez’s scoring punch, Dibrell stayed in the hunt near the top of District 2 and players from every corner of the county chipped in with big efforts. From 15-point nights to role players fighting for rebounds and steals and bench players breaking into the scorebook for the first time, it was another week where new stars started to emerge.

Along the way, there have been some standout performances that deserve recognition, and the Main Street Journal is proud to celebrate the kids who are shining brightest on the hardwood. Each Saturday throughout the season, we’ll be naming a Player of the Week in girls’ basketball — a new tradition made possible thanks to the generosity of our sponsors: \W/ Services Excavating & Land Management, Kevin Rhoton with SouthPoint Risk, Cole Taylor Lawn Care, Prince HVAC, Rodriguez Shed Hauling, Moore Automotive Sales, Crisp Springs Fireworks, Family Care Clinic and Parkhurst Restoration.

Here are the Players of the Week in the girls’ league from Sept. 29–Oct. 3:

Emberlyn Taylor – Bobby Ray Lady Stars

Taylor continues to battle for the Lady Stars, scoring three points against Dibrell this week and providing energy on both ends of the floor. She’s been a steady presence for Bobby Ray as they work through a tough schedule with a young team that has sights on sending the Stars soaring in future seasons.

Karsyn Bain – Boyd Lady Broncos

Bain delivered another big performance for the undefeated Lady Broncos, putting up 15 points in a win over Eastside. Her ability to score in transition and finish around the rim makes her one of Boyd’s most reliable weapons.

Lynlee Taylor – Centertown Lady Warriors

Centertown was the only team in the league to go into fall break with an off week, but they know they have something cooking this season with Taylor leading the way. Her handles, scoring and ability to guide the Lady Warrior offense has been vital to keeping Centertown near the top of District 2.

Bailey Carroll – Dibrell Lady Wildcats

Carroll chipped in eight points across two wins this week, giving Dibrell another strong option inside. Always willing to do the dirty work, Carroll's rebounding, defense and hustle continue to play a huge role in the Lady Wildcats’ success.

Sayla Winfree – Eastside Lady Bulldogs

Winfree's starring at Eastside is a time-honored tradition. Sayla looks to be the next in line. Winfree has been steadily adding to Eastside’s scoring punch and contributed again this week. Her ability to create offense against tough defenses has been important as the Lady Bulldogs continue to grow and gain confidence.

Priscilla Moore – Hickory Creek Lady Hawks

Moore exploded for a season-high 17 points in a 40-9 win over West, showcasing her power in the paint and dominance in transition. She’s been the centerpiece of Hickory Creek’s perfect start and could be the toughest matchup for defenses in all of elementary basketball, blending size, toughness and great touch as a lefty to pour in buckets.

Letty Callahan – Irving College Lady Tigers

Callahan has been working hard for the Lady Tigers and provided a bright spot this week with her effort and determination. Even as Irving College looks to get its first win, her fight and willingness to compete every possession stand out.

Sadie Shaffer – Morrison Lady Eagles

Shaffer chipped in two points against Boyd, continuing to develop as a reliable contributor alongside Kinsley Jones and Ellesyn Waldron. Her grit gives Morrison another weapon as the Lady Eagles push through a tough early slate.

Mackenzie Eller – West Lady Wizards

Eller added two points against Dibrell and another strong effort against Hickory Creek, showing the type of defensive energy, hustle and rebounding coach Isaiah Storey is looking to build the Lady Wizard program around.
