The Warren County A&L Fair is a much-anticipated time for many, but not everyone has equal access to the fun. Families in Crisis - New Beginnings - a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting victims of domestic and sexual violence 24 hours per day, 365 days per year - wants to ensure children in their care get a chance to partake in fair fun. To do that, FIC is turning to the community for help.

"Fair Day for our children in shelter is a small moment that our kids can hopefully forget that they are displaced and had to leave their home due to violence," FIC Executive Director Kristy Stubblefield said. "It’s a time that we hope they can see a little light at the end of tunnel where they can run, laugh and be children without being scared to do so. Most of the children in shelter have never been to the fair and it’s such a blessing to see their eyes light up.

"Last year FIC provided shelter to 49 survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence and their children for 3,476 bed nights," Stubblefield said. "Families in Crisis provided an additional 86 safe nights in motel housing due to our shelter being full. This is an increase of 163 additional bed nights provided than the previous year. Through our New Beginnings program, we assisted an additional 419 survivors with non-shelter services. These services include 399 survivors served in civil court advocacy, 218 survivors received crisis intervention and 459 free counseling services, transportation was provided 420 times for survivors, and six families were relocated to safe permanent housing."

Fair Day for FIC will be Friday, Sept. 12. FIC shelter has 15 individuals in need of sponsors for this year's fair. FIC seeks to provide each person with a ticket pass, a fair meal of their choice, a sweet treat and a game. A Fair Day sponsorship is $25 for the purchase of ride wristbands. Any extra donations will help cover food and game costs. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, stop by the FIC office at 101 W. Main St., or call (931) 473-6221.
