Fire alarm prompts WCMS evacuation

A fire alarm shortly before 11:30 a.m. Thursday prompted a mass evacuation of Warren County Middle School.

According to McMinnville Fire Department firemen on the scene, work was reportedly being done on the AC unit near the school’s gym when a suspected Freon leak caused the gym to begin filling with smoke.

All students and faculty were safely evacuated from the school and congregated in the bleachers at Nunley Stadium while firemen used fans to remove the smoke and check the area.

At 11:45 a.m., the all-clear was given and students began returning to the building.
