After a long battle with dementia, Kirma Rae Hanson Justice died on March 13, 2026, in McMinnville. The oldest child of six, Kirma was born in 1944 in Idaho Falls to Earl J. and Olive Hanson. Kirma was raised with her siblings in Idaho and then moved with her family to Southern California after graduating from Ricks College.
Kirma was working for Hughes Aircraft Company when she met her husband, Barry Justice, at a church activity. Kirma and Barry spent most of the next 45 years raising their family in Fountain Valley, California. While Barry ran the grocery stores and real estate, Kirma was responsible for the home and children. She was completely committed to her family.
Kirma had five children, Greg, Jeffery, Matt, Julie and Brad. She was the primary caregiver to her disabled son, Jeffery, until his passing in 2015.
Kirma was an excellent cook, hostess and crafter. She was always collecting and experimenting with new recipes. She hosted countless Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners for friends and family. There was always room at the dinner table for a friend. Kirma’s crafting and needlepoint skills were on full display in her home during the holidays.
A lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kirma spent many years serving the children, youth, and women of her congregation.
Kirma loved to play games and be with her family. She kept the family organized and well fed during the many trips to Lake Shasta, Lake Havasu, and Tims Ford Lake. She was also the legendary instigator of water balloon fights by quietly supplying her children and grandchildren with bulging water balloons.
In 2011, Kirma and Barry retired and moved to McMinnville, Tennessee. They enjoyed the beautiful, quiet countryside of rural Tennessee.
Kirma is survived by her husband of 60 years, Barry Justice; her four children Greg Justice, Matt Justice, Julie Peterson and Brad Justice; her five younger siblings Fred Hanson, Rod Hanson, Doug Hanson, Mike Hanson, and JoAnn Winn; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was once asked how she would want to be remembered 50 years from now. Her reply, “That I love my family. Family is number one.”
A private family graveside will be held at Mt. View Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, March 20, 2026, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
