The Fairfield Glade Police Department reports a Fairfield Glade resident lost over $1,850 after receiving a call from someone claiming to be with the Lee County, Florida Sheriff’s Office.
The caller claimed the man’s son was in custody and needed immediate bail money sent via Cash App.
The scammer spoofed the actual phone number of the Florida Sheriff’s Office to seem legitimate.
Authorities remind the public that law enforcement agencies will never call demanding immediate bail payments through apps like Cash App.
