Warren County residents will have an opportunity this weekend to safely dispose of unused or expired medications as part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

The Warren County Prevention and Intervention Coalition and the Warren County Sheriff’s Department will partner with the Drug Enforcement Administration to host a local collection event Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Tractor Supply located at 226 Hobson St.

Officials say the event offers a free and anonymous way to dispose of tablets, capsules, patches and other solid forms of prescription medications. The goal is to keep potentially harmful drugs out of homes where they could be misused or accidentally ingested.

The local event is part of a nationwide initiative held twice each year. According to the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, Tennesseans disposed of more than 31,000 pounds of medications during Take Back Day events in 2025.

State officials say removing old medications from the home is one of the simplest ways to reduce the risk of misuse, addiction and accidental poisoning, while also preventing drugs from entering the environment and water supply.

For those unable to attend Saturday’s event, officials note that permanent prescription drug drop boxes are available year-round across Tennessee, including locations within local law enforcement agencies.
