Seeing spots

Session two of Summer Theater Camp presented by Warren Arts and the Park Theater culminated in a free performance of Disney’s “101 Dalmatians KIDS” Friday evening at the historic venue.

The show brought an end to a week of activity designed for children in 1st through 12th grades as an introduction to the world of performing arts for newcomers and an opportunity for experienced actors to hone their craft.

Beginning Monday, July 20 and running each day from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., the week included crafts, snacks, dancing and acting instruction and much more.

“It’s been a long week, but they’ve done so well,” camp director Kennette Dixon said. “This week was focused on teaching them about theater – not only learning the show but all aspects including crafts, behind-the-scenes work and performing,”

A pre-show pizza party provided by Main Street Media Friday afternoon provided the fuel for the campers to put on a crowd-pleasing production for nearly 400 humans and one actual Dalmatian who attended the free 30-minute show.

The quality of the show belied the abbreviated preparation time with a cast of 60, many first-timers, putting on a musical after only a week of rehearsal.

Plans are already in the works for the 2027 Summer Theater Camp at the Park Theater. Details, when available, will be released on the Main Street Journal and the Park Theater website.
