Thirteenth Judicial District Attorney General Bryant C. Dunaway reminds everyone that as of July 1, 2026 virtual currency kiosks and the drug Kratom are illegal in Tennessee.

Virtual Currency Kiosks

Bitcoin ATMs have been found to be a tool used by fraudulent schemers to victimize vulnerable adults. It is now a Class A misdemeanor to knowingly install or allow the installation of, permit, place or otherwise operate a virtual currency kiosk in Tennessee.

Kratom

Under Public Chapter 950, known as "Mathew Davenport's Law", possession of Kratom is a Class A misdemeanor. It is a felony to knowingly manufacture, sell or deliver Kratom, or to knowingly possess Kratom with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver it.

Medical examiners must test for Kratom when a death is caused by a suspected overdose.

Physicians who order toxicology testing for suspected overdose cases or suspected neonatal abstinence syndrome are required to test for the presence of Kratom.
