WCHS sets 2026-27 tryouts

Warren County High School has announced tryout information for several sports ahead of the 2026-27 school year, with sessions scheduled throughout May for students in grades 9-12.

The upcoming tryouts come after another active and successful athletic year for Warren County programs across multiple sports, including district championships, postseason appearances and several athletes signing to compete at the collegiate level.

The first tryout date on the calendar is for Pioneer boys basketball on Monday, May 19. Tryouts will run from 2-4 p.m. in the WCHS gymnasium under head coach Danny Fish. Players and families are also asked to note that clothing orders for the program will take place May 22 from 5-7 p.m. 

A packed schedule follows on Friday, May 22, beginning with a pair of morning sessions from 10 a.m. until noon.

The Lady Pioneer soccer program will hold tryouts at the WCHS soccer field under coach Todd Willmore, while the Lady Pioneer volleyball team will conduct tryouts in Charlie Dalton Gymnasium under coach Erin Blalock. 

Girls basketball tryouts are scheduled for noon-2 p.m. in the gymnasium, which will be overseen by head coach Kyle Turnham.

Pioneer baseball tryouts will take place from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at Patrick Ramsey Field. Head coach Phillip King can be contacted for additional details.

Warren County’s rapidly growing flag football program, coached by Paul Martin will hold tryouts from 2-4 p.m. on the WCHS football practice field. 

The final tryout session of the day will belong to the Lady Pioneer softball team, coached by Jerry Martin, from 3-5 p.m. at the WCHS softball field. 

Students interested in participating are encouraged to arrive early and contact coaches ahead of time with any questions regarding eligibility, required paperwork or additional offseason information.
