WCMS announces tryout dates

Future Pioneers and Lady Pioneers will be selected at the end of the month. Warren County Middle School announced tryouts this week for the majority of its 2025-26 teams, which will be hoping to replicate a lot of the success WCHS athletics experienced this school year.

The WCMS dance team won its second straight national championship, the Pioneer wrestling team won the CTC and sectionals before finishing fourth in the state, the Lady Pioneer volleyball and softball teams both claimed conference titles and the WCMS track programs are looking to put two more banners in the rafters next week when they take part in the CTC championships May 9 in Manchester.

Warren Co. Middle School Tryouts 2025–2026

Eligibility:
Students entering grades 6–8 for the 2025-26 school year at any Warren County elementary school are eligible to try out for all sports, with the exception of basketball and basketball cheer. All participants must submit a completed participation form, which is available by clicking this link.

Tryout Schedule & Contact Information:
Basketball cheer tryouts for students entering grades 6–8 are currently to be determined.

Football tryouts will take place on May 27 from 4–5:30 p.m. at the football locker room. For questions or more information, contact coach Matheney at matheneyb@warrenschools.com.

Girls volleyball tryouts are scheduled for May 23 in the WCMS gym. Sixth graders will try out from 10:15–11:45 a.m., and grades 7-8 from 11:45 a.m.–1:30 p.m. Coach Bethany Mesaros can be reached at mesarosb@warrenschools.com for additional details.

Girls soccer tryouts will also be held on May 23 from 10:30 a.m.–noon at the WCHS soccer field. Students can reach out to coach Sally Willmore at willmores@warrenschools.com for more information.

Girls basketball tryouts for sixth grade will be held on May 23 from 2–3:30 p.m. in the WCMS gym. Coach Tyra Wright Rubio is the contact and can be emailed at wrightt@warrenschools.com. Tryouts for 7-8 grade girls will follow on the same day from 3:30–5 p.m., with coach Grace Scott leading. She can be reached at scottg@warrenschools.com.

Boys basketball tryouts for sixth grade will be held on May 23 from 5:15–6:30 p.m. at the WCMS gym. Interested students should contact coach Lee Carden at leecarden24@gmail.com. Seventh and eighth grade boys will try out later that evening from 6:30–7:30 p.m., also at the WCMS gym, under the direction of coach Kevin Burnett. He can be reached at cqitn@yahoo.com.
