Caregiver Arrested for Elder Neglect and Financial Exploitation in Putnam County

A caregiver has been arrested for elder neglect in Putnam County. The victim is his 84-year-old grandfather.

According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, the victim was discovered suffering severe malnutrition, shortness of breath, could not answer basic questions and had not been bathed in weeks. Due to the victim’s condition, he was transported by EMS for medical treatment. The victim is now residing in a safe place with proper care.

Investigators also observed deplorable living conditions and evidence of financial exploitation.

On June 30, 2026, the victim’s grandson, Brandon McBroom was arrested and charged with Aggravated Neglect of an Elderly Adult, Theft of Property, and Financial Exploitation of an Elderly Adult. McBroom has a bond set at $143,000 and a court date of August 10, 2026.
