City Board to consider truck purchase, two hires Thursday

The Sparta Board of Mayor and Aldermen has a short agenda ahead of it when members meet Thursday evening at Sparta City Hall.

Among the items up for consideration is the purchase of a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 four-wheel-drive truck for the Water Department. The truck would be purchased from Wilson County Motors for $42,963.10 through a state contract. The purchase is listed as a budgeted item.

The board will also consider hiring recommendations for two city positions: an apprentice lineman and a police officer.

A second Water Department item calls for approval of Gullett for sludge removal at the Water Plant. That work is also listed as a budgeted item.

Department head reports, new business, unfinished business, and an opportunity for the public to have their voices heard during the citizens comments portion of the meeting are also included on the agenda. October 1, 2026
