The first full week of January gave the girls 6–8 grade county basketball league another jolt of clarity, with statement wins, revenge performances and the continued dominance of the team everyone is still chasing. From Centertown maintaining its perfect run to Boyd climbing back into the mix and Irving College leaning on star power, the Jan. 6–8 slate helped further define roles, rotations and the race moving forward.

Centertown is still soaring above the rest of the teams, running its record to 8-0 overall with victories against Irving College and Dibrell last week. The Lady Tigers, aided by a dominant victory over Eastside, stayed firmly in second place, while Boyd and Morrison find themselves in a gridlock for third place after the Lady Broncos went on the road and grounded the Eagles.

As the calendar turns and teams settle into the final stretch of the regular season, individual performances continue to shape outcomes just as much as schemes and matchups. The Main Street Journal is proud to recognize the standouts from last week’s games with our Girls Players of the Week, made possible thanks to Triple B Nursery, Crisp Springs Market, Prince HVAC, TEH Construction, Pioneer Lanes and Sara Collins with Tree City Realty.

BOYD – MONI HARRIS

Harris delivered a defining performance in Boyd’s road win at Morrison, scoring a team-high 11 points while anchoring the paint on both ends. Her size and athleticism created problems all night, helping Boyd slow the Lady Eagles’ interior game and control tempo. Harris continues to grow into a go-to post presence, and her effort powered one of Boyd’s most important wins of the season.

CENTERTOWN – WILLA DENNING

Denning once again showed why she remains one of the most feared scorers in the league. She poured in 13 points against Dibrell and followed with 11 more on the road at Irving College, including a dominant third-quarter surge that broke open a tight game. Whether scoring inside, stepping out from deep or drawing defensive attention that frees teammates, Denning continues to lead an unbeaten Lady Warriors squad riding a three-year winning streak.

DIBRELL – ANNISTON PAGE

Page was the offensive bright spot for Dibrell during a challenging week, leading the Lady Wildcats with seven points against Centertown. She continued to attack confidently and shoulder the scoring load against one of the league’s toughest defenses, showing leadership and consistency as Dibrell works through a demanding stretch of the schedule.

EASTSIDE – TYLEE HERRIMAN

Herriman continued to compete through a difficult stretch, scoring in Eastside’s matchup with Irving College and battling on both ends against relentless defensive pressure. She stayed aggressive, attacked when chances were there and remained engaged throughout the week, providing a spark as the Lady Bulldogs continue to look for a breakthrough.

IRVING COLLEGE – MAEBRY YATES

Yates was the engine of the Lady Tigers’ offense throughout the week, scoring eight points against Centertown and erupting for 22 in a dominant win over Eastside. She consistently created offense in transition, attacked gaps and carried the scoring load as Irving College stayed firmly in second place in the standings.

MORRISON – ELLA PENNYWELL

Pennywell delivered strong efforts in both outings, scoring 12 points against Boyd and leading Morrison with eight in a defensive rout of Eastside. Her physical play around the rim and ability to finish through contact helped stabilize the Lady Eagles as they split the week and stayed in the middle of the league race.

Jan. 12 games: Boyd at Eastside, Irving College at Dibrell, Morrison at Centertown.
