The spotlight keeps getting brighter in Warren County’s 3–5 grade girls basketball league and this past week may have been the most entertaining stretch of the season yet. Boyd and Hickory Creek kept their perfect records intact to set up Monday’s undefeated showdown, Bobby Ray finally broke through with its first win in overtime and Irving College earned a feel-good victory that showed just how far it’s come since opening week.

Every team had players step up and deliver - from scorers lighting up the stat sheet to defenders making the hustle plays that often decide close games. With the regular season heading into its home stretch, these kids continue to make their mark on one of the county’s most exciting leagues.

Bobby Ray Lady Stars – Emberlyn Taylor

Taylor’s determination finally paid off when she knocked down two clutch free throws in overtime to give Bobby Ray its first win of the year. Her late-game poise and leadership have sparked confidence throughout the young Lady Stars roster.

Boyd Lady Broncos – Karsyn Bain

Bain continued to torch defenses, dropping 19 points against Irving College to keep Boyd unbeaten. Her scoring touch, court command and ability to rise in big moments make her one of the county’s toughest players to stop.

Centertown Lady Warriors – Arie Shehane

Shehane delivered when it mattered most, scoring six points and playing strong interior defense in Centertown’s 21-18 win over Morrison. Her intensity in the post helped the Lady Warriors hold off one of the league’s hottest scorers.

Dibrell Lady Wildcats – Kinslee Rutledge

The Lady Wildcats continue to lead the District 2 standings after toppling Eastside Thursday night and Rutledge, one of the toughest players in the league, is a big reason why. Every night the purple and gold take the court, they have a chance thanks to one of the league's top bucket getters.

Eastside Lady Bulldogs – Sayla Winfree

It was an all-hands-on-deck week for the Eastside Lady Bulldogs as they battled down to the wire, and then even some extra time, in a home OT loss to Bobby Ray Monday. Eastside also made a big push to try to slow down Dibrell - the D2 leader - Thursday on the road. Winfree was fighting every step of the way, grabbing boards and scoring five big points for the Lady Bulldogs against the Lady Stars.

Hickory Creek Lady Hawks – Daisy George

George is a key role player in the Hickory Creek starting 5 and has been vital in the team starting the season perfect. A capable scorer and fierce defender, George is a building block of what could be years of winning for the Lady Hawks in District 1.

Irving College Lady Tigers – Amaya Morrison

Morrison helped lead the Lady Tigers to their first victory, scoring a bucket and anchoring the defense in an 11-7 win over Bobby Ray. Her growing confidence have been key to Irving College’s late-season push toward competitive games nightly.

Morrison Lady Eagles – Kinsley Jones

Jones turned in another huge week, following her 19-point effort against West with 16 more versus Centertown. She’s climbed to second in the league in scoring and continues to prove she can carry her team every night.

West Lady Wizards – Ariana Aguilar

Aguilar’s offensive fireworks continued with a 25-point outing in West’s win over Morrison and nine more against Hickory Creek. Her explosive scoring and leadership have made her the centerpiece of the Lady Wizards’ attack.

Thursday, Oct. 23 recap

The Warren County elementary girls basketball league saw a little bit of everything Thursday night - dominant performances from league leaders, a breakthrough win for a team searching for confidence and a nail-biter that came down to the wire.

Lady Hawks keep flying high

At this point, Hickory Creek’s biggest challenge may be finding a team that can slow it down. The Lady Hawks rolled to a 41-19 win over West to move to 8-0 overall and 6-0 in District 1 play, once again flashing the balance and energy that have made them the league’s gold standard.

Daelyn Roland led the charge with 14 points, followed closely by Karah Fish with 13. Both continue to climb the county’s scoring charts, ranking among the top five players in average points per game. Priscilla Moore and Daisy George each added six as Hickory Creek’s pressure defense and relentless pace turned the second half into another runaway.

West, led by nine points from Ariana Aguilar, stayed competitive early but couldn’t keep up with the Lady Hawks’ fast tempo. Hickory Creek remains tied with Boyd atop the overall standings, with both teams now sporting perfect 8-0 records.

Irving College earns its first win

There was celebration at Irving College, where the Lady Tigers broke into the win column for the first time this season with an 11-7 victory over Bobby Ray.

It was a total team effort for the Lady Tigers, with Sophia Stubblefield leading the way with five points. Letty Callahan, Amaya Morrison and Willow Hertwig all chipped in two as Irving College’s defense held firm down the stretch.

The win was a major step forward for the young squad, which had been steadily improving in recent weeks and finally saw its hard work pay off. Emberlyn Taylor scored four for Bobby Ray, while Nyla Millraney added three.

Centertown sneaks past Morrison

Centertown’s balanced attack was the difference - Arie Shehane scored six, while Candy Potter, Lynlee Taylor and Camilla Lopez each added four. Vivianne Douglas chipped in three as the Lady Warriors improved to 4-2 overall and strengthened their grip on second place in District 2.

Morrison’s Kinsley Jones once again showed why she’s one of the league’s elite players, finishing with 16 points to keep her team within striking distance. Ellesyn Waldron added two, but the Lady Eagles fell just short in the final minute.

Boyd and Hickory Creek Set for Unbeaten Showdown Monday Night

For more than a month, two teams have ruled Warren County’s elementary girls basketball league with unmatched dominance. On Monday night, one of them will finally have to blink.

When Boyd and Hickory Creek step on the court Oct. 27 at JK Stanley Gymnasium, it won’t just be another game - it’s a clash of unbeatens, a matchup that could decide who wears the crown as the league’s top team. Both squads come in at 8-0 overall, boasting high-powered offenses, stingy defenses and players that have filled the top of the county scoring charts all season.

For Boyd, it’s been a year defined by balance and composure. The Lady Broncos have stormed through District 1 play behind the scoring trio of Karsyn Bain, Mia Prater, and Skylyn Wright, while Oly Cathcart’s defense and court vision have been vital in setting the tone. Boyd’s relentless pressure, quick pace and ball movement have made it nearly impossible for opponents to keep up.

Meanwhile, Hickory Creek has looked every bit like a powerhouse. The Lady Hawks have blown through opponents with a mix of size, speed and teamwork, led by the dynamic trio of Daelyn Roland, Karah Fish, and Priscilla Moore - all of whom rank among the league’s top scorers. Hickory Creek’s depth has been just as impressive, with Daisy George, AnnaLee Simpson, and Hattie Scott each playing key roles in keeping the team unbeaten.

Both teams enter averaging more than 30 points per game while allowing fewer than 10, and each has been largely untested all year. Boyd has some of the biggest blowouts by lighting up the scoreboard for 50-plus points a couple of times, while Hickory Creek has the league's only three shutouts this season.

Monday’s matchup could not only determine regular-season supremacy, but also be the first of a trio of matchups in the next three weeks to determine this year's county championship.

Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. and if the first half of the season is any indication, fans might want to show up early - this one has all the makings of a classic. The teams will have an immediate rematch at Hickory Creek Thursday night.

Here's the rest of the week's schedule:

Monday, Oct. 27
Hickory Creek at Boyd, 6 p.m.
Irving College at West, 6 p.m.
Centertown at Eastside, 6 p.m.
Dibrell at Morrison, 6 p.m.
