If you’re going to introduce yourself at the varsity level, this is about as loud as it gets. In her first career varsity start, White County’s Izzy Sherman didn’t just win — she was flawless. No hits. No runs. No walks. Seven strikeouts. A perfect game.
And while the Warriorette offense piled on behind her, this night belonged to the eighth-grader in the circle who never let Avery Trace even think about settling in.
White County wasted no time giving Sherman breathing room. The Warriorettes exploded for 14 runs in the bottom of the first inning, immediately flipping the game into runaway territory. Back-to-back doubles from Dreu Segraves and Bianca Villano sparked the surge, and Addison Finley followed with an RBI single to keep things rolling. A string of walks and aggressive baserunning loaded the bases before Sophia Austin cleared them with a triple. Segraves came back up in the same inning and matched her with a triple of her own, pushing the lead to eight before the inning was halfway finished.
By the time Sherman stepped into the circle against her fourth batter, she already had a double-digit cushion. But there was no easing into the moment. She attacked from the start.
In the first inning, Sherman mixed in a strikeout between a groundout and a pop up, quickly showing she was in control. Avery Trace couldn’t square her up, and more importantly, couldn’t find a way on base. No hard contact. No mistakes to capitalize on.
From there, she took it up another level.
The second and third innings were nothing but strikeouts. Three up, three down — twice — with Sherman overpowering the lineup and never giving a hitter a chance to settle in.
The Warriorettes added six more runs in the second inning, but again, the focus quickly shifted back to Sherman.
When the final out was recorded, it was official.
A perfect game in a varsity debut — 9 up, 9 down — with seven of those outs coming by strikeout. No traffic on the bases. No defensive pressure. Just complete control from start to finish.
White County improves to 9-0-2 on the season, with the two ties coming during early playday action in February. The Warriorettes will travel to Prescott South next before turning around for a rematch with Avery Trace.
But regardless of what comes next, this one will stick.
A first start. A perfect game. And a statement that Sherman is more than ready for the varsity stage.
