Macon County hands Warriorettes first loss

For one half Thursday night, White County gave Macon County its closest battle in three seasons.

The Warriorettes went into halftime trailing the host Tigers by just two goals, 3-1, before Macon County pulled away in the second half for a 10-1 win.

“We knew this was going to be a big battle. They are a really good team,” White County head coach Madison Mason said. “I am proud that we went to the half down by just two at 3-1. That is the closest we have been to this team since I’ve been coaching.”

Macon County had beaten White County 8-0 in Mason’s first season as head coach and followed that with a 4-0 win last year.

This time, the Warriorettes were able to stay within striking distance through the opening 40 minutes.

Junior Kaydence Redmon provided White County’s goal, while freshman goalkeeper Sophia Austin was kept busy throughout the night. Austin finished with more than 10 saves as Macon County continued to put pressure on the Warriorette defense.

The second half was a different story. Macon County added seven more goals as White County struggled to slow down the Tigers.

“We are an injured team who doesn’t have many subs, so the second half caught up to us,” Mason said.

The loss snaps a four-match winning streak for White County and is the Warriorettes’ first loss of the season.

White County will look to bounce back on Tuesday when they travel to Smithville to face Dekalb County in their first district match of the season.
