'Plucked' play presented at Park

With a little encouragement, anyone can spread their wings and reach heights they might never have dreamed of.

That's the premise at the heart of both the latest production from the Park Theatre Group and Dream Reality Group as well as a documentary being filmed about the behind-the-scenes work to bring the play to the stage.

The show in question is "Plucked," a musical set in a boarding school where standing out is not advised. The family-friendly, hour-long show is inspired by "The Ugly Duckling" and follows Piper Plume, a new student whose colorful plumage makes her a target for the ducks more willing to fall into line at the school.

The show is directed by Logan Taylor with music direction from Kennette Dixon and Allie Morton and choreography by Jasmine Dillon.

"This show has been such a blast to put on," Taylor said. "It’s an original musical and this cast and crew have brought our ‘Ugly Duckling‘ story to life in ways I couldn’t imagine. The show is about celebrating what makes us unique. The production value is great and it’s really an adventure for the whole family."

Adding another element to the production process has been a camera crew which has been filming the behind-the-scenes work on the musical for a documentary directed by Emmy-winning producer Elaine White. Covering the process from audition to showtime, the film will focus on the power of theatre to transform the lives of young people by helping them come out of their shells as well as the effects theatre has on the community and the world at large.

"Plucked" premieres Friday at 7 p.m., followed by shows Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 plus tax and are available at the Park Theater website, at the box office at 115 W. Main St. and at the door prior to the show.
