by Isabella Carmichael - Dee Harris Field took on a different look Wednesday night as White County High School students traded roles for the night during one of Homecoming Week’s traditions: Powder Puff football.

The event featured matchups between the freshmen, sophomore, junior and senior classes, with the sophomore class ultimately taking the overall win. The game also served as a fundraiser for the school’s flag football program, giving students an opportunity to support the growing sport while enjoying a night of homecoming fun.

The competition began with the seniors facing the juniors, followed by a matchup between the freshmen and sophomores. The seniors advanced with a win over the juniors, while the sophomores defeated the freshmen, setting up a championship matchup between the two winning teams. In the final game, the sophomores defeated the seniors, taking the Powder Puff title.

Although the freshmen did not advance to the championship, the experience introduced the class to a new Homecoming tradition. Freshman Powder Puff coach Samuel Price said the team’s first year provided lessons that can be carried into next year’s Powder Puff game.

“We learn from year one, and I think we’ll come back better next year,” Price said.

While the seniors ultimately fell to the sophomores, the game gave the class one more chance to take the field together during their final Homecoming Week as students at WCHS.

“My favorite part had to be just coaching a group of girls that were competitive and wanted to win,” senior Powder Puff coach Eli Sparkman said. “I got a bit too into the coaching, but the girls didn't care; they listened and tried their best. Despite the result and things we couldn't control, like the refs, I was proud of them and had so much fun.”

Adding to the evening’s Homecoming festivities, each class also took part in halftime performances, bringing class spirit to the field. While no official winner has been named, the performances gave students another opportunity to represent their class and contribute to the occasion.

With the final whistle, the sophomore class was crowned the 2026 Powder Puff champion, closing out another Homecoming Week tradition filled with school spirit and memories for students across all classes.
