Appointments top first meeting for new Sparta board

Sparta's newly seated Board of Mayor and Aldermen will hold its first regular meeting Thursday, with a pair of appointments among the first items of business.

The board will select a vice mayor and consider the appointment of a new city recorder during the Sept. 3 meeting. Finance Director Tonia J. Wilson is the city administrator's recommendation for the city recorder position.

Mayor Jerry Lowery and aldermen Bobby Officer, Jim Floyd and Travis McBride were sworn in during the board's Aug. 20 meeting whle aldermen Judy Payne, Brent Young and Brian Jones remain on the board.

Also on Thursday's agenda is a recommendation to hire Daniel Trivette as a police officer. Trivette was a candidate for White County sheriff in the Aug. 6 election.

Two additional personnel recommendations are on the agenda, including Taylor Goodwin for sewer plant operator-in-charge and another hire for sewer plant operator-in-training.

The remainder of the scheduled business is relatively routine, including a property tax assessment change and other regular city business.

The meeting begins at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at Sparta City Hall. The complete agenda is included below.
