It was another weekend of action on the basketball courts in White County. After the high school completed their homecoming games, it was on to the youth leagues where there was everything from close games to huge wins, and even games going into sudden death after remaining tied despite two overtime periods.

In the Rookie League, it was Taylor taking a 10–4 win over Griffith and Rocky Pop Co getting the 6-2 win over Rice while Aphena Pharma Solutions ended in a tie with Southard. Boyer’s entire team has improved immensely over the season, resulting in a 10—0 blanking of Cannon Farms.

Victory Lawn Care didn’t get the win, falling 5-3 to Johnson, but it wasn’t for lack of effort. Emmett Brown put in the work and hustled up and down the court all game long. The same can be said for Ruby Weston of Christpoint Church, who, despite her team being on the wrong end of a 10-2 score, was determined to work both ends of the court. Weston was helped by Hadley Cole, who put up a great defensive effort and was the ultimate team player. It was Zaeden Wright who scored Christpoint’s only points as they fell to The Wacky Lemon on Saturday.

Center Hill Sports Marine took a dominant 18-8 win over Armstrong with Carrigan Lowery stealing the show. Lowery went coast-to-coast in her light-up shoes to score her first career basket. After the ball swished through the net, she ran straight to her dad, Coach Caleb Lowery, to celebrate.

In Training League action, Delaney Logging took a big 24-2 win over Page on the girls’ courts thanks to Genesis Taylor’s hustle that resulted in a number of steals. Whitetail Property brought home a 15-4 win over American Roofing Co while Sonic got the 13-4 win over Sullivan's Disposal.

On the boys’ courts, it was Brasel over Rawly-Mae Farms despite Ralston Trivette’s hustle for the team on the bottom of a 10-8 score. Sparta Services bested Edd Rogres by a score of 17-7, and Hitchcock took home a 24-19 win over Weldon.

The big game on this division was between Johnson and Sonic. With the score tied at 13-all, Cameron Keller tok the ball down court and dropped it through the net to give Johnson a hard-fought 15-13 win.

In the Junior Girls league, Smith downed K & J Electric by a large margin, 48-6 while American Roofing Co got the five-point win over Napa Auto Parts. Kylie McCulley scored 12 points for First Class Auto, but despite the hustle and determination from the whole team, they lost a heartbreaker to Poss, falling by a single point, 20-19. True North put up a big 38-16 win over Southern Roots Salon thanks to 24 points from Roxanna Daniel and 13 more from Hadley Sims.

The Junior Boys league is where the action got hot. Corey Johnson’s team won a pair of games, first over Collins and then over Flatt, thanks to 18 points from Kannon West and 16 from T.J. Ray. Walker took a 2-0 win over Hitchcock, who then lost their second game, 69-32 to Meeks. Smith edged out Bechtal 53-47 and Crockett took a big win over Murphy. But it was Passin Time Barber Shop that put on the biggest show of the day.

After falling 19-9 to Young in the first of two games for the afternoon, Passin Time came into the second game with all heart. They started strong but found themselves down by 6 early on, and the deficit grew to 11 by the third quarter. However, the boys didn’t quit. They battled back to tie the score at 20-all by the final buzzer. After double overtime where neither team scored at all, the game was forced to a sudden death round. After intense back-and-forth action, with emotions running high and the crowd going wild, Prince Bohannon was fouled. Bohannon stepped to the free throw line ready for the clutch shot he’s been putting serious work in on and gave his team the 21-20 win.

On the senior courts, it was Roberts taking a 42-34 win over Absolute Care and American Roofing Co besting Rodgers Farm by a score of 28-24 in girls' action. On the boys' side, Hart outscored Collins 59-25 while Weldon scorched Angell, 82-24. Smith took a 25-point win over Sliger, who then fell in their second game of the day dropping a 57-30 loss to Faltt.

With just three weeks left in the regular season, here's a look at the standings across the Sparta Youth Basketball league.
