White County has been turning to one place for their eye care for the past 50 years. Wednesday, that place got a new look.

Cumberland Eye Care, formerly Moore Eye and most recently Mullins Vision, officially welcomed the community to meet their new team and learn about all they will be offering to the Sparta community.

“This business has been taking care of the community here, starting with Dr. Moore 50 years ago, and we’re just excited to be that next step,” Dr. Michael Jones, an ophthalmologist, said. “We’re excited to continue on a tradition of a practice that’s been here for a long time and carry it on into the future.”

Jones said the biggest change the community will see has to do with surgical options that will now be offered in Sparta. He said pre- and post-operative services for things like cataract surgery, lasik surgery, eye-lid surgery and a vast array of other eye-related surgeries will be available.

“Patients won’t have to travel out of town so much, which should make the logistics of getting the treatment they need much better,” Jones said, adding for the time being the actual surgeries will have to take place in the company’s surgical center in Cookeville, but treatment before and after will take place locally.

Cumberland Eye Care has three surgeons on staff: Dr. Michael Jones, Dr. Stewart Galloway, and Dr. Brittany Denaro. Additionally, the company has several optometrists with a familiar face staying in Sparta to serve patients.

“Dr. Caitlin Milsaps has been here for years, and she will continue to be here, taking care of all of your vision needs,” Jones said.

Wednesday, Cumberland Eye Care hosted an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony to introduce the changes in both name and services to the community.
