A proposal moving through the Tennessee legislature could change when people are legally allowed to use deadly force — and it goes beyond just protecting yourself or your family.

This week, the Criminal Justice Subcommittee advanced House Bill 1802, sponsored by State Rep. Kip Capley of Summertown. The bill focuses on situations where someone is trying to protect property at the place they live — something that current law handles much more narrowly.
