Championship races, postseason play and the season debut of Church League Volleyball headline another packed week of local sports action in McMinnville.

While several McMinnville Youth Baseball and Softball League divisions continue to sort out regular season standings, the Boys 9-10 championship and Girls 10-14 semifinals will begin determining who takes home hardware this week.

In the meantime, Church League Volleyball officially opens its season and both the Church Softball League and McMinnville Adult Baseball League continue their summer schedules.

Youth League postseason takes center stage

The biggest games of the week come in the McMinnville Youth Baseball and Softball League, where championship and semifinal contests begin to take shape.

Tuesday night features the Boys 9-10 championship game at Sam Martin Field. The finalists were still not known at press time, but Tuesday’s championship will feature either No. 1 seed 3R Earthworx or No. 4 seed 3 Rusty Nails against either No. 2 Blessed by Grace Body Shop or No. 3 Smile Doctors.

The spotlight then shifts to Pete Holt Field on Thursday when the Girls 10-14 Division semifinals are held. Regular season champions Moose Lodge 1725 will face First National Bank, while No. 2 seed Fog House Firearms takes on Security Federal in the other semifinal. The winners will advance to the championship game on Monday, June 15.

Several regular-season races also remain worth watching. Ben Lomand Connect continues to lead the Boys 7-8 Division and will have a chance to strengthen its position Tuesday night against TEH Construction. The Boys 5-6 Division remains crowded behind leader Ben Lomand Connect, as Turner & Sons Nursery, Rains Rapidspray and Southern Blue remain within striking distance heading into another busy week of games.

On the girls' side, Pioneer Building Supply and Champion Chevy.com will meet Thursday in a matchup that could have major implications atop the Girls 7-9 standings.

Church League Volleyball returns

Warren County Church League Volleyball officially opens play at McMinnville Church of God on Tuesday night.

Ten teams will compete in the league, including McMinnville Church of God, Rock Island Church of Christ, OLD Testament Athletes, Called to Serve, Cross Denominators, Westwood Church of Christ, Safe Harbor Church of God, First Baptist Church, Covenant Fellowship Church and Rolling Acres BIC.

Opening night will feature four matches, highlighted by the league's first contest between OLD Testament Athletes and Called to Serve at 5:30 p.m. The schedule continues Thursday with three more matches, including OLD Testament Athletes facing Rolling Acres BIC and First Baptist Church making its season debut against Rock Island Church of Christ.

With every team beginning at 0-0, the opening week will provide the first glimpse at how the new league's pecking order may develop over the summer.

Church League Softball, Adult Baseball races continue

The Warren County Church League softball season enters another important week with both the men's and women's divisions beginning to separate.

In the women's division, Centertown United Methodist has emerged as the early favorite while Rock Island Church of Christ and Bibles on Base are both searching for momentum. The latter two teams will square off Thursday after Rock Island first faces league-leading Centertown on Tuesday.

The men's division has been far more competitive. Living Word Fellowship and New Union share first place at the moment, while Holy Sticks and Rock Island Church of Christ are close behind. New Union has an opportunity to strengthen its record with games against Rock Island Church of Christ on Tuesday and Freedom Life Church on Thursday.

The McMinnville Adult Baseball League concludes the busy week with three games Sunday at Edley Newman Field.

Action begins at 2 p.m. when the Padres meet the Cubs, followed by the Pirates taking on the Leviathans at 4 p.m. The evening concludes with the Pirates returning to the field for a matchup against the Mets at 6 p.m.
