Warren County High School coaches aren’t wasting any time preparing for the 2025-26 athletic season. With eyes on district titles and deep postseason runs, several programs are holding tryouts Friday, May 23, evaluating new talent and building on past success.

From the soccer pitch to the hardwood, and across the baseball and softball diamonds, WCHS will be buzzing with activity as nearly every major sport holds open evaluations.

TRYOUT SCHEDULE – FRIDAY, MAY 23

  • Girls Soccer: 10 a.m. – noon, Soccer Field

  • Volleyball: 10 a.m. – noon, Charlie Dalton Gym
Erin Blalock enters her sixth season at the helm of the Lady Pioneers with what should be a confident, experienced roster. With all-district players Ali Young and Lola Wells returning from a 10-win campaign, expectations are high in District 7-3A.
  • Freshman Boys Basketball: 10 a.m. – noon, Auxiliary Gym
Incoming ninth graders from feeder schools like WCMS, Centertown, Eastside, Dibrell, Irving College and Morrison will be looking to make their mark. The freshman squad is a crucial part of the program’s future in competitive District 6-4A play.
  • Girls Basketball: Noon – 2 p.m., Charlie Dalton Gym
Coach Kyle Turnham is preparing for his second season with the Lady Pioneers after a nine-win season and a top-four district finish. With a challenging 4A district lineup - now including Cookeville - Turnham’s squad is aiming for continued growth.
  • Girls Flag Football: 2-4 p.m., Practice Football Field
After a breakout 11-win inaugural season, Coach Paul Willis Martin will evaluate new players to replace key graduates like Bri Taylor and Zoie Verge, both of whom earned college flag football scholarships.
  • Baseball: 1-3 p.m., Patrick Ramey Field
Coach Phillip King’s team is coming off a 17-win campaign and is preparing to battle in a strong District 6-4A. With experienced returners and promising newcomers, the Pioneers are looking to make noise this spring.
  • Softball: 3-5:30 p.m., Softball Field

  • Boys Soccer: 5–7:30 p.m., Soccer Field
As the final session of the day, boys soccer will close out tryouts on a high note. The Pioneers are looking to reload and improve after a competitive 2024 season that saw the group finish the year as the No. 2 team in the regular season.

In addition to the May 23 tryouts, boys basketball for current 9th–11th graders will hold evaluations on Tuesday, May 20, from 5-7:30 p.m., and wrestling tryouts are scheduled for Sunday, June 2, at 5 p.m. in the indoor facility. The WCHS golf team will also hold tryouts on June 2 and 3 at 8 a.m. at McMinnville Country Club.

WCHS cross country will not hold formal tryouts, but interested runners should contact Coach Kelsea Turner at turnerk@warrenschools.com for summer training information.

With energy high and rosters taking shape, Warren County athletes and coaches are ready to hit the ground running in what promises to be an exciting 2025-26 school year.
