Two people were rescued in the Big Bottom Wildlife Management Area south of Sparta on Saturday after their side-by-side became partially submerged and stuck in the river. The Sparta-White County Rescue Squad, Doyle Volunteer Fire Department, Hickory Valley Volunteer Fire Department, and Tennessee State Parks Rangers responded and were able to recover the vehicle. Everyone was brought out safely and there were no reports of injuries. The Sparta-White County Rescue Squad said the incident marks the third wilderness rescue in the past three weeks.
