The White County Warriorettes were back in district play on Thursday where they played guests to the Livingston Academy Lady Wildcats where they bested the host team by a score of 48-37. It was a quick turnaround for Sparta after just playing on Tuesday at Smith County in Carthage.

Before the game White County head coach Michael Dodgen spoke with 92.7 YERT's Paxton Elmore. Dodgen was asked how they used the one day they had between contests. The head coach's response was just a normal practice: getting shots up, running up and down the court, basically sticking to their usual routine.

Dodgen also mentioned his team really needed a district road win; the Warriorettes came into Thursday night winless on the road in district play. Livingston Academy didn't make it easy for Sparta either.

The Warriorettes were out rebounded by L.A. in the first half, and they also struggled turning the ball over. Still White County went to halftime up six, but they wouldn't grow that lead until the fourth.

The final frame is when Sparta would finally get a comfortable lead and put the Wildcats away and get their first road win in district play as they came home with an 11-point win.

It was a tale of two halves for offensive production. In the first two quarters, Lakelyn Grasty lit up the net, scoring 10 points, while she would only score four points between the third and fourth quarters combined. The second half star was Gracie Clark scoring 13 points in the final 16 minutes. Overall, Clark led with 17 points while Grasty racked in 14 points.

Defensively, sophomore Sara Winfree came in clutch when they needed her. After Kyra Fox picked up her third foul, Winfree would make her way into the game, where she made her impact immediately: deflecting passes that would lead to turnovers, flying to the ball, tying up for jump balls, helping set traps, and fighting for the ball underneath for rebounds which helped the Warriorettes immensely down the final stretch.

Four Warriorettes joined Grasty and Clark in the scorer's sheet with Ashlynn Selby scoring seven points and Bella Winningham knocking in five points. Kylie Norris and Taegan Angell rounded out the scoring with three points and two points, respectively.

Sparta improves to 22-3 on the year and, more importantly, they improve to 3-1 in district play where they still sit in second place. White County is scheduled to play in Jamestown against York on Monday, however with the threat of inclement weather that could be subject to change. Statuses regarding next week's schedule will be announced on Main Street Journal - Sparta and 92.7 YERT FM's Facebook pages when they become available.
