Another course, another Warriorette win

Another course. Another crowded field. Another win for the White County Warriorettes.

White County came out of Tuesday's Keith Maxwell Invitational at McMinnville Country Club with a 156, enough to hold off Cookeville's 163 and put another first-place finish on the season.

And once again, Lenzie Golden and Piper Heady were right in the middle of it.

Golden fired a 77 to tie for second individually, while Heady's 79 put her fourth. Their two rounds combined for White County's winning 156.

Ava Elrod gave the Warriorettes a third strong round with an 82. Her score wasn't needed in the two-player team total, but it meant all three White County golfers finished within five strokes of one another.

Behind White County and Cookeville, the gap widened quickly. Upperman finished at 186, followed by Warren County at 187, Coffee County at 193, Riverdale at 202, Lincoln County at 214 and Shelbyville at 224.

The Warriors didn't get the win Tuesday, but there wasn't much separating them from several teams ahead of them.

White County's 342 was just one stroke behind Warren County's 341, with Lucas Phillips leading the Warriors at 83. Logan Holland was one shot back at 84, and Tripp Tollison followed with an 85.

Matthew Wilson added a 90, Jack Carpenter shot 91 and Bray Roberts finished at 94.

Cookeville took the boys title with a 319, but the next four teams were separated by just six strokes. Coffee County shot 322, Tullahoma 324 and Lawrenceburg 325 before Warren County and White County came in at 341 and 342.

The Warriors still finished ahead of Shelbyville, DeKalb County, Oakland, Riverdale, Lincoln County and Franklin in the large invitational field.

White County won't have much time away from the course. The Warriors and Warriorettes are back in action Thursday afternoon, meeting Livingston at Hidden Valley Golf and Country Club.
