Warriorettes blank Cumberland to open season

White County Middle School opened its girls' soccer season on a winning note Monday evening, using a strong second-half performance to defeat Cumberland Middle School 2-0 on the Warriorettes' home field.

Neither team was able to break through during a tight first half as both defenses stood firm, sending the match into halftime deadlocked at 0-0.

White County found another gear after the break.

The Warriorettes' emphasis on teamwork throughout the summer began to pay dividends as sixth-grader Kali Green and eighth-grader Piper Green each delivered an assist that set up Ana Dronebarger for a pair of second-half goals. Dronebarger's two scores proved to be all White County needed to secure the season-opening win.

While the result was exactly what head coach Cameron Dronebarger wanted to see, there is still room for improvement before the Warriorettes return to the pitch.

White County has several days to prepare before traveling to Cookeville on Friday to face Avery Trace Middle School. The Warriorettes will spend the week sharpening their attack and ball movement while looking to carry Monday's defensive performance into Friday's match.
