The White County Middle School baseball team finally found a win in April — and it didn’t come easy.

In their regular season finale Thursday night, the Warriors edged the Warren County Pioneers 1-0 in a tightly played game where every baserunner mattered and one moment made the difference.

Both teams had chances early, but neither could capitalize. Warren County opened the game with a leadoff single in the first inning but left the runner stranded. White County answered in the bottom half with a two-out walk and a Pioneer error to put two on, but couldn’t push a run across.

The pattern continued through the next two innings. Each team managed to get a runner aboard in both the second and third frames, but solid defense and timely pitching kept the scoreboard untouched. In the top of the fourth, Warren County again reached base — this time on a White County error — but never advanced beyond first.

The breakthrough finally came in the bottom of the fourth.

Tate Pinion led off the inning by turning on the first pitch he saw, sending a ground ball into left field for a single. After stealing second, and waited patiently as Aiden Short worked a walk. A passed ball allowed Pinion to advance, and moments later, with Short drawing attention while swiping second, Pinion broke for home and scored what would stand as the game’s only run.

That was all Carson Burton needed.

The right-hander went the distance on the mound, closing the door in the fifth with an efficient nine-pitch inning to retire the side in order and lock up the shutout. Burton allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out five of the 19 batters he faced.

The win closes out the 2026 regular season with White County sitting at 9-12. The schedule proved especially challenging down the stretch. After going 3-2 in February and an even 5-5 in March, the Warriors dropped seven straight in April before breaking through with Thursday’s 1-0 finish.
