The White County Middle School Warriors managed just one hit Thursday night and fell 5-0 to Avery Trace.

White County had chances early. The Warriors put runners on base in each of the first two innings thanks to walks and hit batters, but couldn’t come up with the hit they needed to push a run across. Avery Trace had a similar missed opportunity in the first, putting two runners on with singles but leaving both stranded.

The Raiders broke through in the bottom of the second. A leadoff double followed by a stolen base put a runner at third, and an infield ground ball brought him home to give Avery Trace a 1-0 lead.

White County went down in order in the third, and that’s when the game got away. Avery Trace scored four runs despite recording just one hit in the inning. A combination of walks, aggressive baserunning, and a wild pitch allowed the Raiders to stretch the lead to 5-0.

That score would hold the rest of the way.

The Warriors made their best push in the fourth inning, loading the bases, but once again couldn’t capitalize. It was the same story all night—opportunities there, but no timely hit to bring anyone home.

Kolton Sanders took the loss for White County, working two innings and allowing three runs on three hits with two walks. Carson Burton pitched one inning, giving up two runs on one hit while walking two and striking out two. Owen Clouse handled the final inning and recorded one strikeout.

With the loss, White County splits the series with Avery Trace after Tuesday’s win. The Warriors now sit at 5-4 on the season and will head into a Saturday doubleheader against DeKalb County, making up games that were rained out earlier this month.
