After nearly two weeks away from the field, the White County Middle School Warriors soccer team returned to action Monday night and got the result they needed.
Coming off back-to-back losses and a 12-day layoff, the Warriors found their rhythm again with a 2-1 win over Stone Memorial, using early pressure and timely scoring to get back in the win column.
White County set the tone early, controlling possession and attacking from the opening whistle. That pressure paid off about 10 minutes into the match when Braxton Jones found the back of the net to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. Despite the strong start, the Warriors had a brief stretch of defensive lapses late in the first half, allowing Stone Memorial to capitalize on a cross and even the score with just over a minute remaining before halftime.
White County had a chance to respond immediately, earning a penalty with just 15 seconds left in the half, but couldn’t convert, sending the teams into the break tied.
In the second half, the Warriors regained control and continued to push the ball on offense. Their persistence paid off when Micah Hogg scored off a loose ball inside the box, giving White County the lead for good. Jones and Hogg each contributed both a goal and an assist in the win.
With the win, the Warriors will take a break from district play as they host a matchup against Watertown on March 27.
