Warriorettes come up just short at Algood

White County Middle School’s soccer Warriorettes suffered just their second loss of the season Monday night, falling 3-2 on the road at Algood.

White County jumped in front almost immediately. Ana Dronebarger found the net within the first two minutes off an assist from Piper Green, giving the Warriorettes an early 1-0 advantage.

Dronebarger struck again as White County built a 2-0 lead and appeared to be in control.Algood, however, cut the deficit to one shortly before halftime and carried that momentum into the second half.

The host team scored twice more after the break to turn the two-goal deficit into a 3-2 advantage. On both of Algood’s second-half goals, White County left players unmarked in the center of the field, opening the door for the scoring opportunities that ultimately erased the Warriorettes’ lead.

The loss gave White County some things to clean up, but it did little to change the bigger picture for a Warriorette team now six games into its season.

“Our girls have proven that they can compete with anyone in our district, and our goal continues to be to be as prepared as possible for the district tournament when it arrives,” head coach Cameron Dronebarger said after the match.

White County falls to 4-2 on the season and will look to bounce back Thursday when the Warriorettes host Macon County.
