One day after putting up 20 runs, the White County Middle School Warriorettes saw their bats go quiet. On Tuesday, White County managed just three hits and one run in a 4-1 loss to Prescott South.

All of the scoring came early. The Warriorettes threatened right out of the gate when Dreu Segraves drew a leadoff walk in the first inning. Bianca Villano followed with a single that was mishandled, putting two runners in scoring position. Another walk loaded the bases with no outs, and it looked like White County might be headed for another big offensive night. Instead, Segraves came home on a passed ball, and that lone run would be all the Warriorettes could produce.

Prescott South answered in the bottom of the second—and that inning proved to be the difference. After recording two quick outs, White County pitcher Paizlee Taylor issued back-to-back walks. A full-count pitch was then driven into the outfield for a two-run single, giving Prescott the lead. The hosts added two more runs in the inning, taking advantage of another walk, another hit, and a White County error to push the score to 4-1.

From there, both teams had chances but couldn’t capitalize. Each side managed a hit and a couple of walks over the final innings, but any runners that reached base were left stranded as the game settled into a defensive battle.

Taylor went the distance in the circle for White County, allowing four runs—three earned—on four hits and four walks. She also recorded nine strikeouts, continuing to show command despite the loss.

The defeat marks the first loss of the season for the Warriorettes, who now sit at 9-1-2. White County will look to bounce back Thursday in a road rematch against Avery Trace.
