Losing streak over: Warriorettes explode for 10 in breakthrough night

The White County High School Warriorettes snapped a seven-game losing streak Tuesday night with a 10-6 win over Upperman.

White County broke through in the second inning. Addison Howell led things off with a walk and moved all the way to third on a single by Annie Burrier. Kaylee Sanders’ ground ball to first may have resulted in an out on the bases, but it allowed Howell to score the game’s first run. Miah Jo Swindell followed with a sacrifice bunt that brought Burrier home, giving the Warriorettes a 2-0 lead.

The offense kept rolling in the third. Back-to-back doubles from Kylie Norvell and Anna McCulley sparked the inning, and Callie Phillips added an RBI with a hard-hit ball to left field. Later, Kami Clark — running for Phillips — tagged up on a deep fly ball from Burrier and beat the throw home to stretch the lead to 5-0.

Upperman got on the board in the top of the fifth with a pair of runs, but the Warriorettes answered in a big way. A walk followed by five singles quickly pushed White County’s total to nine runs. Another walk and an Upperman error added one more, and the Warriorettes carried a commanding 10-2 lead into the sixth inning.

Upperman made a late push with four runs in the sixth, but White County was able to shut things down before the rally got out of hand.

The win was the Warriorettes’ first since a 21-6 victory over Monterey on March 6 and just their second of the season. White County will return to action Monday when they host Clay County.
