The White County Middle School softball team pounded out 14 hits and scored 11 runs in its regular season finale, but defensive struggles proved costly. The Warriorettes committed 11 errors, leading to 12 unearned runs to go along with six earned runs, as Warren County pulled away for an 18-11 win.

White County got off to a strong start in the first inning. Bianca Villano led off with a single, then stole both second and third before scoring on Addisio Finley’s deep sacrifice fly to center. Paizee Taylor followed with a double, and Bella Rosell-Diaz singled to put runners on the corners. Josslyn Wright drove both home with a double — the first of her four RBIs on the night — giving the Warriorettes a 3-0 lead.

Warren County answered quickly. A triple and two errors cut the lead to 3-2, and a ground ball, another error, and a single helped the Lady Pioneers take a 4-3 advantage heading into the second inning.

In the top of the third, White County’s defensive struggles surfaced again. Three errors and a hit batter contributed to a seven-run inning for Warren County. A trio of singles in the fourth pushed the lead to 14-3 before the Warriorettes could respond.

White County’s offense came alive again in the bottom of the fourth. Carli Goines led off with a double, and Sophia Austin drove in a run with a hard ground ball to shortstop. An error allowed Bella Madden to reach and moved Austin to third. Back-to-back singles from Villano and Finley brought in two runs, and Taylor followed with a two-RBI hit. Wright added another two-run double, and a single by Goines loaded the bases. Dreu Segraves then drew a bases-loaded walk, capping an eight-run inning that cut the deficit to 14-11.

That would be as close as White County would get.

Warren County added four more runs in the fifth. Two walks and a single loaded the bases before a single and an error cleared them. Another error and a base hit brought in the final run, stretching the lead to 18-11.

Kambrie Tayes started in the circle, allowing 14 hits and striking out three over 4.2 innings. While only three of the runs charged against her were earned, 12 unearned runs crossed the plate behind defensive miscues. Paizee Taylor closed out the game, allowing three runs on one hit.
