Tuesday night was the start of a three-game road trip for the White County Warriorettes as they traveled to Carthage to take on the Smith County Lady Owls. This is the second time the Warriorettes and the Lady Owls have clashed this season with the first meeting back on December 8th going Sparta's way.

More than a month later, and nothing changed as White County grounded Smith County with a 73-60 score. The first half was a close battle between the two squads, but the third quarter is where the Warriorettes made their mark holding the Lady Owls to only 11 points in the third, while adding 20 points to their side of the scoreboard.

The Warriorettes saw three players scoring double-digits with Gracie Clark leading the way with 19 points. Bella Winningham was behind her with 16 points after knocking in eight of those points in the fourth quarter. The third player to hit double-digit scoring Tuesday night was Lakelyn Grasty who put up 13 points, but more importantly the senior Warriorette did a good job defending one of Smith County's top players, Emry Jones.

Rounding out the scorer's sheet for Sparta was Ashlynn Selby, Kyra Fox, and Kylie Norris who scored 8 points apiece. Teagan Angell would also find the bottom of the net with one point on the night after a made free throw.

Smith County's dangerous duo of Emry Jones and K.K. Dixon combined for 50 having 25 points each, however they had no help with Haiey Overstreet, Dacey Claywell, and Bailey Davis scoring just three points apiece.

From around the district on Tuesday night, the Upperman Lady Bees were defeated by the Lady Panthers of Stone Memorial, while Cumberland County defeated Livingston Academy. Upperman still sits in first with a 3-1 record in district play while White County sits in second at 2-1. Stone Memorial now has a 2-1 record but sits in third thanks to Sparta currently owning the tie breaker over the Lady Panthers after defeating them last week.

White County improved to 21-3 on the year and will step into district play on Friday when they travel to Livingston Academy; radio coverage can be heard on 92.7 YERT FM.

With the threat of inclement winter weather this weekend, games this week, and possibly next week, could be affected with the following options on the table: a tipoff time change, rescheduling, or being flat out cancelled.  Be sure to follow Main Street Journal - Sparta and 92.7 YERT FM's Facebook pages for updates on game statuses.
