White County Wrestling has won two of their last three matches as they prepare for this weekend’s district tournament. On December 16, they posted a 48-36 win over York Institute and then a second win, 38-24, over Cumberland County. They finished up with a 62-10 loss in a home match versus Cookeville High School.
Despite the home loss, which took place on Tuesday night, the Warriors took two wins in the dual meet and another in the only girls' match of the night. Konner Coutermarsh took a win by forfeit at 106 for White County. At 132, Darrin Caudie fought his way through a 5-5 first period tie to take an 18-9 win by the end of the third period.

It was Alondra Ornelas who got the win on the girl's side. Ornelas, wrestling at 115, kept her composure after being down 0-3 at the end of one. In the second period, the third-year wrestler reversed and pinned her opponent for the win.

The Warriors took a couple of wins in exhibition as well. Most notably was Hayden Guerrieri, who is a returning wrestler for the Warriors. Guerrieri controlled his opponent throughout the exhibition match, taking each round - 3-0, 7-0, 10-1 – to get the win.

“I’m really happy with how much experience our kids are getting this year,” David Foster, White County’s coach, said. “For many of them, these meets were just their first or second time on the mats in a competition.”
Foster said that it was encouraging to see the progress that returning wrestlers were making ahead of the tournaments. With White County’s wrestling program just in its third year, the experience is beginning to show in the way of overcoming early deficits and staying close in matches until the final period.
The Warriors will compete in the district dual tournament on Saturday, January 6. While only the top two scoring teams will advance to the regional round, individual season is just kicking off, and Foster said he hopes to see several of White County’s wrestlers advance during the season.
