Eighty-six-year-old Woody M. Davenport died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026 at NHC Healthcare McMinnville following an extended illness. He was a resident and native of McMinnville.

Woody was a member of First Baptist Church – McMinnville where he served as a deacon for many years. He was a 1957 graduate of McMinnville Central High School and a graduate of the John A. Gupton School of Mortuary Science. Upon graduation, he moved to Greensboro, North Carolina where he worked for the Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home. In 1974, he returned to McMinnville to become a partner in Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. In 1984, he became a partner in High’s Incorporated and worked there until his retirement in 2018.

While in Greensboro, he was a member of the Optimist Club and the Jaycees. In McMinnville, he served many years in the Lions Club by working at the fair food booth, selling brooms and pecans to assist with their fundraising.

He was born to the late Ulus Floyd Davenport and Vergie Atha Jones Davenport. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Royce Davenport.

He was married 63 years to Jeanette Davenport who survives. He is also survived by son and daughter-in-law, Rocky and Jane Davenport; daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Boyd Ramsey; granddaughter, Sarah Belle Ramsey; sister, Alvida Davenport Woody of Columbia, Tenn.; brother-in-law, Larry Smith of Cleveland, Ga.; sister-in-law, Patti Davenport; two nephews, two nieces and several additional family members.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026 in High’s Chapel with Bo Hendrix and John Templeton officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Cemetery.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at High’s.

Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels or to The Gideons International for the purchase of bibles.
