What began as yard work on a quiet afternoon in White County ended with deputies investigating reports that bullets had flown dangerously close to nearby residents.

Authorities say a husband and wife were outside working in their garden on May 11 when they suddenly heard what sounded like gunfire and then saw a bullet pass by them. The couple pointed deputies toward a nearby home and described the direction they believed the shots had come from, prompting an investigation that eventually led deputies to recover spent shell casings and file a criminal charge.
