The White County Middle School Warriors dropped their first district matchup of the season Friday night, falling to Algood by a score of 7-2.
Algood applied pressure early in the contest and quickly built a lead in the first half, putting the Warriors in a difficult position to recover. White County was forced to make an early adjustment when goalkeeper Logan Allen left the game due to injury. Haydrien Stevens stepped into the net and delivered a strong performance under heavy pressure, finishing the night with 12 saves.
Despite the early deficit, the Warriors showed improvement after halftime. White County increased its offensive pressure and played a much stronger second half, limiting Algood to just two additional goals.
Braxton Jones and Brenam Sandlin each found the back of the net for the Warriors’ two goals in the match.
Head coach Justin Rittenberry said the team will use the experience as motivation moving forward as district play continues.
White County will return to action on March 12 when the Warriors host DeKalb County in their next district contest.
