Mrs. Barbara Berneda Barnes, 95, of McMinnville passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026. She was born on Jan. 13, 1931 in Dearborn, Mich., and was a Church of Christ member and most recently attended Mt. Leo Church of Christ. She was a cook with the Head Start Program where she not only created friendships, but also close relationships with the children. She enjoyed spending time and making memories with her grandchildren, working outside in her flowers, crocheting, and reading. She always found a way to keep her husband busy- one of the many ways she showed her love. She is preceded in death by her parents James Farrell Rogers and Lila Bell Cunningham Rogers, her faithful husband of 72 years Wallace Lee Barnes, Jr., daughter Candace Lynn Barnes-Cook, brothers M.T., Farrell, and Marcus, and sisters Mary Elizabeth, Betty, Frances, and Linda Sue.
Survivors include her children David Ralph Barnes, Rodger Eugene (Rhonda) Barnes, and Beverly Roxanna (Kirk) Pender, grandchildren John Barnes, Travis Barnes, Stephanie (Troy) Hobbs, Taneah (Rick) Lay, Alyson Pender, Maddison Cook, and Parker Cook, great grandchildren Dylan Barnes, Hunter Hobbs, Alex Williams, Braelyn Lay, Blakely Lay, and Brendon Lay, and great-great grandchild River Griffith. Special friends Lesia Donalson and Lisa Malloy also survive as well as several nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Funeral service for Mrs. Barbara is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026 in the McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Trent Key will officiate. Interment will follow at Hebron Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again from noon until the time of service at 2 p.m.
