What started as a simple cleanup on a vacant property in eastern White County quickly turned into something far more serious, after human skeletal remains were discovered on Bon Air Mountain — prompting a multi-agency response and an active investigation that is still unfolding.

Sheriff Steve Page said the discovery was made by a neighbor who had been picking up trash on the property while preparing to purchase the home. During that process, the individual came across what appeared to be a human skull. They immediately stopped what they were doing and called 911.
