District Attorney Matt Colvard Seeks to Continue Serving Tennessee's 31st Judicial District

I am asking the voters of Warren and Van Buren counties for the opportunity to continue serving Tennessee's 31st Judicial District as your District Attorney General. After being appointed by Gov. Bill Lee to fill a vacancy in the office, I am seeking election in the Aug. 6 special election to complete the remainder of the current term.

On Thursday, Aug. 6, voters in Warren and Van Buren counties will have the opportunity to choose who will serve as District Attorney General for Tennessee's 31st Judicial District. After being appointed by Gov. Bill Lee to fill the vacancy in the office, I am asking voters for the opportunity to continue serving the people of our district for the remainder of the current term.

I have devoted much of my career to public service and prosecution. Over the past 25 years, I have gained extensive courtroom experience, including 17 years as a prosecutor. Before my appointment as District Attorney General, I served as an Assistant District Attorney for the 31st Judicial District, working on behalf of the people of Warren and Van Buren counties.

As a fourth-generation Warren Countian, serving this community is deeply personal to me. After returning home to Warren County in 2012, I have remained committed to protecting the people of our district and strengthening the justice system. My campaign is built on experience, public safety, and providing steady leadership for the District Attorney's Office.

One of the endorsements I am most proud to have earned is the support of the dedicated prosecutors and staff who serve in the 31st Judicial District Attorney's Office. Their endorsement reflects the relationships we have built and their confidence in my leadership, experience, and commitment to the office's mission of serving victims and protecting our communities.

In addition to my legal career, I served nearly 30 years in the United States Army and Army Reserve before retiring from military service. During that time, I served as an Infantry officer, Military Intelligence officer, and Judge Advocate. My assignments took me to Iraq, El Salvador, South Korea, and Germany. I was honored to receive the Bronze Star for meritorious service during my deployment to Iraq.

As your District Attorney, I am committed to working closely with local law enforcement, standing up for victims of crime, supporting rehabilitation when appropriate, and holding repeat offenders accountable. My goal is to ensure our communities remain safe while administering justice fairly and consistently.

I also believe voters deserve complete transparency. That's why I am the only candidate in this race to publicly release my Republican voting record. Rather than asking voters to simply take my word, I have made my voting history available so they can evaluate my record for themselves.

Because this is a special election to fill a vacancy, candidates for District Attorney appear on the ballot without party labels.

The 31st Judicial District serves Warren and Van Buren counties. The District Attorney's Office is responsible for prosecuting criminal cases, representing the State of Tennessee in court, working in partnership with local law enforcement agencies, collecting court-ordered child support, and providing support and advocacy for victims of crime.

I would be honored to earn your vote on Thursday, Aug. 6, and to continue serving the citizens of Warren and Van Buren counties as your District Attorney General.
