McMinnville resident and Huntsville, Ala. native Gayle M. VanHooser, 91, was born July 4, 1934 and died Dec. 5, 2025 at her residence following an extended illness.
A homemaker, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Flossie M. Dowell Gilley. She was married to William Kenneth VanHooser on Sept. 21, 1951 who preceded her in death. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by daughter, Kathryn Hopkins; brother, Douglas D. Gilley and sister, Jean A. Gilley.
Mrs. VanHooser is survived by children, Julia (Alan) George of McMinnville, Nancy (Craig) Doman of Murfreesboro and Ranse (Kay) VanHooser of McMinnville; grandchildren, Matthew (Jessica) George, Maria (Josh) Miller, Sarah Harris, Jacqui (Thomas) Taylor and Staci (Braxton) Hopkins; great-grandchildren, Peyton Harris, Jay Harris, Ava Taylor, Mina Hopkins, Henry Taylor, Nova Hopkins, Mason Miller and Willie Hopkins and son-in-law, Bill Hopkins of Charlotte, Tenn.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, 2025 in High’s Chapel with Gayle Mangum officiating. Burial will follow at Whorton Springs Cemetery in Dekalb County. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. until time of service at High’s.
