The White County Middle School baseball team picked up its second win in as many days Tuesday night, knocking off Avery Trace 2-0 in a low-scoring defensive battle.

White County threatened early, putting three runners on base in the first inning and another in the second, but it wasn’t until the bottom of the third that the Warriors broke through. Haskell Simmons was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch. He moved to third when Cayden Boswell reached on an error, and Jack Dicus followed with a hard line-drive single to right field to bring Simmons home. Two pitches later, Boswell scored when Ryder Staggs hit a sharply struck ball that the Avery Trace third baseman couldn’t handle.

That would be all the offense either team could muster.

Dicus handled the rest on the mound. After setting the Raiders down in order through the first four innings, he continued to control the game, allowing just one hit in the fifth while striking out six in a complete-game shutout.

White County added a pair of baserunners in the fourth but couldn’t extend the lead. It didn’t matter, as the Warriors’ defense and pitching made the two runs stand.

The win improves White County to 5-3 on the season. They’ll travel to Avery Trace on Thursday for a rematch in the second half of the home-and-home series.
