Grundy County native and resident Maxie Annette Wanamaker, 88 years young, was born April 14, 1937 and died Jan. 30, 2026 at Select Specialty Hospital in Nashville following a brief illness surrounded by her children.

She was a retired employee of Century Electric/Magnetek of McMinnville and a member of the Irving College Baptist Church. Maxie loved to travel and went on many trips with various groups in her late years. She was the daughter of the late Oscar and Juanita Cordell Dykes of Grundy County. She was married on May 1, 1954 to A.J. Wanamaker for 53 years who preceded her in death. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brother and sister-in-law, Shefford and Ethelene Dykes.

She is survived by her daughter, Phoebe Owenby; sons, Jim (Linda) Wanamaker and Teddy (Sharon) Wanamaker; grandchildren, Mica (Chrissey) Wanamaker, Adam (Leslie) Wanamaker, Nathan Wanamaker, Stacie (Pat) Bordenet, Brayden Owenby and Graysen Owenby and nine Great-Grandchildren and brothers, Cordell (Edith) Dykes and Powell (Tula) Dykes and sister, Mary Joyce King.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026 in High’s Chapel with Anthony Wanamaker officiating. Burial will follow at Philadelphia Cemetery in Grundy County. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service at High’s.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels and Philadelphia Cemetery.
