What began as an attempted burglary investigation has now led to another felony charge. A Cookeville man arrested last week after authorities say he tried to force his way into a White County home is now accused of assaulting a correctional officer during the booking process at the White County Justice Center.
The latest allegation traces back to the same June 26 incident Main Street Journal - Sparta previously reported, when a homeowner called 911 after reporting a man was pounding on her back door and trying to get inside. Deputies arrested the suspect outside the residence and charged him with attempted aggravated burglary, attempted theft, assault and public intoxication.
Authorities now allege the events continued after he was transported to jail.
