Viola resident and Warren County native Sidney Lanier Hobbs, 82, was born March 15, 1943 and died Aug. 28, 2025 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville following a sudden illness.

A veteran of the Tennessee Army National Guard, retired employee of Powermatic and a member of Viola Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Sidney and Mary Francis Eaton Hobbs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant brother, Howard and sister-in-law, Patty Mullican Hobbs.

He was married to Jemmie Hobbs of Viola on June 3, 1966. In addition to his wife, Mr. Hobbs is survived by son, Jason (Tina) Hobbs of Viola; daughter, Kim (Jeff) Cartwright of McMinnville; grandchildren, Caitlin (Dylan) Keith and Layton (Kenzie) Cartwright, both of McMinnville and Sidney Hobbs and Samantha Hobbs, both of Viola; great-grandchildren, Ella, Emersyn, Everly and John Walker; brother, Larry Hobbs; nephew, Brad Hobbs and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Graveside service and interment will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2025 at Viola Cemetery in Warren County with Johnny Lance officiating. No service or visitation will be held at High’s.
